Concerned citizens bailout community hospital

Friends of Monkey Bay, a W hatsApp – based group of youths, have donated assorted medical equipment and other essential items worth K1 million to Monkey Bay Community Hospital in Mangochi District to ease operational challenges the facility is experiencing.

The do nation included wheelchairs, blood pressure testing machines, catheter bags and digital thermometers.

Speaking on Saturday during the handover, the group’s organising chairperson Virinyu Dzimbiri said the gesture was a token of appreciation for the dedicated healthcare workers and a reflection of their commitment to making a positive impact in their community.

He said : “ Our healthcare worke r s cannot manage to save lives of our loved ones alone as they work with insufficient materials.

“So, let our act serve as an example of how collective efforts, no matter how small, can contribute towards building a stronger and more caring community.”

MonkeyBay Community Hospital administrator Thokozani Chizale commended the group, saying the donation will support the hospital’s ongoing efforts to provide quality care to patients.

He sa i d : “There’s always a mismatch between what we get from the government and the number of patients seeking services from the hospital.

“Such donations keep us going as they makea big difference in our line of work. We greatly appreciate it.”

The hospital serves about 200 000 people from Masasa, Nsumbi, Zambo, Mvunguti and Chizale areas
